  • Intro to Spoon Carving - Knife Skills

    Welcome to the world of green woodworking! In this class we will discuss how to carve a wooden eating spoon from a tree. I will demonstrate roughing out a spoon blank with an axe, then we’ll get started learning knife grips, safety and carving techniques. This class will open up a new world of working with wood!

  • Beginning Woodturning - May

    During this four session class, you will be introduced to the lathe, tools, and accessories used in woodturning. You will learn how to select and prepare the wood, mount it on the lathe, and use various tools to shape, sand, and finish your piece. Great for beginners or those who need a refresher.

  • Open Shop Woodturning

    Whether you're a beginner or have some experience with woodturning, this class is perfect for you. You'll have the opportunity to work at your own pace and develop your skills in a supportive and fun environment. For those who are currently enrolled in a wood turning class with Marjin, or have taken a class from her in the past.

    Design/Build Furniture Series

    This class series is for serious woodworkers! We’ll spend four evenings together, designing, building and finishing a furniture project of your choosing. We’ll work together in the lead-up to the class to decide on projects and choose wood species. Some Open Studio time may be required to finish.

  • Intro to Blacksmithing - Get Hooked!

    Try your hand at using a hammer and forge and shaping hot steel in this intro level blacksmithing class. We’ll cover the basics of tool use, safety, and technique - and we’ll make some cool things to bring home!

  • Hand tools in wood shop

    Intro to Woodworking - Makers in the Space!

    There are countless projects at your fingertips in the woodshop, but sometimes we don’t know where to start. In this 3-hour class, we’ll teach safe operation of many of the shop’s most powerful tools, and then you’ll be free to get creative. Projects may require Open Shop attendance to finish.

  • Creative Cutting Boards

    Learn some new tools as we create playful shapes for your kitchen. A live edge breadboard makes a great gift, and will add character to any dinner party spread! And, at the end of the class, you will have a unique wooden piece to take home and show off to your friends and family.

  • Carving a Butter Spreader

    You can have your butter and spread it too! Learn to carve a butter spreader from a tree! In this class we will discuss wood grain and orientation, why we carve with green wood, knife skills and design. Each student will get a roughed-out blank to carve their spreader from and be spreading in no time!

    Let’s get your Spring planting going with a little cedar garden box! In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to construct your own garden box from scratch using simple tools and provided materials and instruction to build your very own 24”x48” garden box. All you need are soil and plants!

  • Intro to Woodworking - Address Sign Planter Box

    Make a cute thing for outside your front door! Reclaimed and rustic or crisp and new, we’ll have wood here to match your style.

    Together the class will learn how to use a few different saws and nailers, drills, drivers, stains and finishes.

  • Intermediate Woodworking: Shop Stool

    Take your skills to the next level with this Shop Stool! This project turns a single 2x10 into a classy stool with a foot rest. This stool is all glue joints, requires no fasteners, and leaves plenty of room for customization.

    Legs are attached to the seat with mortise and tenon joints, and leg bracing can be accomplished with half-laps or mortise and tenon depending on maker preference and experience. Ages 15+

  • Carving a Simple Spoon

    Learn to carve a simple spoon with knives! Each student will be given a spoon blank of green wood (freshly cut) to carve. We will discuss knife grips, safety and technique with a straight knife and a hook knife. This spoon is great for tea, jam, honey, stirring and scooping in jars. Gain a new lens on working with wood!
