A chance for kids to learn and play at the Makerspace, with the help of our experienced coaches and makers. Bring your own creativity!

Intro to Laser Cutting: DIY Coasters and Decorations
This class shows you how to use our favorite digital tool in the shop. A laser cutter can turn images into precisely rendered engravings and cut intricate shapes from wood, plexiglass, and other materials. A small class size (4) allows for lots of time on the tools.

Intro to 3D Printing and TinkerCAD
Learn to draw shapes in 3 dimensions and how to use a printer to bring them to life! Small class size (3) means that kids get lots of attention and time on machines.

Whittling for Little Hands
This is a great introduction to using a knife for young children. Teacher and mother, Lacey Spray, begins with basic knife techniques on root vegetables and then slowly introduces carving on wood. Your kids are going to be so proud to work with a knife (safely!).

Intro to Spoon Carving - Knife Skills
Welcome to the world of green woodworking! In this class we will discuss how to carve a wooden eating spoon from a tree. I will demonstrate roughing out a spoon blank with an axe, then we’ll get started learning knife grips, safety and carving techniques. This class will open up a new world of working with wood! Taught by local carver, Steven Antholis.

All Day Hack-A-Thon
You have one day to solve a challenge, using any and every tool in the makerspace! Learn electronics, coding, woodworking and more, as you create a unique contraption. Taught by Jack Perrin, who loves to MacGyver his way out of a tough situation.

Introduction to Embroidery and Hand Sewing
In this class you will get an introduction to embroidery and hand sewing! You will learn the basics and various embroidery stitches. With your new skills you will then sew a small treasure bag that is uniquely decorated with your embroidery design. Your instructor studied and taught textile crafts in Swedish schools where students learned embroidery, crochet, knitting, and sewing on the machine. She is excited to bring this experience to the Gorge!

Carving a Butter Spreader
You can have your butter and spread it too! Learn to carve a butter spreader from a tree! In this class we will discuss wood grain and orientation, why we carve with green wood, knife skills and design. Each student will get a roughed-out blank to carve their spreader from and be spreading in no time! Taught by local carver, Steven Antholis.
